And again in Isaiah 22:12-13:
"The Lord, the Lord Almighty, called you on that day to weep and to wail, to tear out your hair and put on sackcloth. But see, there is joy and revelry, slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine!"
There come times when we must be on our face, weeping before God (before disaster strikes), and pleading with Him for an answer to our prayers. If the spiritual leaders in Jesus' time were able to see the "signs of the times", they would perhaps have then been motivated to repent and to lay aside anything that would hinder their getting to Jesus and, subsequently, to the Father.
We believe this is what Jesus was talking about (at least in part) when He said that those who mourn would laugh. We must be aware that we can reach the POINT of desperation (fervent prayer and supplication to God) before something comes upon us that will bring us to the point of DESPERATION.
In the next chapter, we will look at some examples of scripture which help us see how desperate some of the writers became in their search for the Lord and an answer to their prayers.
